TRE for overwhelm

Overwhelm is what happens when the nervous system takes on more than it can process at once.

The felt experience

Everything is too much. The to-do list, the noise, the decisions, the people. Your capacity has shrunk and the demands haven't. You're not coping less. There's just less of you available to cope.

What the body is doing

Overwhelm is the nervous system's signal that input exceeds processing capacity. The body floods with stress hormones, muscles tense and the brain struggles to prioritise. It's the precursor to shutdown, the body's warning that it needs discharge or rest.

What tends to help

Reducing input is part of the answer. But the body also needs to process what it's already taken on. TRE gives the nervous system a way to discharge accumulated activation, creating space and reducing the felt sense of overload.

What TRE looks like for overwhelm

TRE sessions during periods of overwhelm often produce immediate relief. The tremoring allows the body to process stored tension, and you may well feel lighter and clearer afterwards. Regular practice builds resilience, increasing the nervous system's capacity to handle demand without tipping into overwhelm.

Common questions

I can barely manage my day. Will TRE add to the overwhelm?
No. TRE is one of the least demanding practices you can do. The exercises take a few minutes and the tremoring is done lying down. It's designed to reduce your load, not add to it.
How quickly does TRE help with overwhelm?
It's common to feel noticeably lighter after a single session. The tremoring allows the body to process stored tension, creating a sense of space and clarity. Regular practice builds resilience so overwhelm becomes less frequent.

Where to begin

A workshop is a great way to experience TRE for the first time in a supportive group setting.
